150g raw prawns
1 tbs soy sauce
1 inch fresh ginger
1 clove garlic
Sesame seeds
Oil for frying

Aren’t these Thai? Never had them at a Chinese place in NZ but they’re
usually served as an entree and any Thai restaurant.
I feel so awful saying this, didn’t have canola oil. Fried in butter.. Was

Hi. You make reference on this video about oven baking them instead of
frying but they aren’t quite the same. May I suggest a way that worked
really well for me? I fried 1 side of the bread in shallow oil and then
spread the mixture and seseme seeds on and grilled the top.

can u just toast the bread, cook the shrimp, then blitz them into a paste
with said ingredients, top with seasame seeds and serve…as a healthy
alternative as well….

Im Chinese aswell and I’ve eaten this in Hongkong and I serve these in my
own restaurant so I don’t know what kind of Chinese you are
I live in America and I’ve never seen them before! Also, keep in mind some
Chinese restaurants tend to have “asian fusion” or “asian inspired” food as
well rather than having just having traditional foods! Restaurants in
general tend to have fancier foods that aren’t common at all. If you were
to go to an Italian restaurant, I’m sure you’ll find many things an Italian
family has never heard or made before!
why aren’t the prawns pink after cooking like the restaurant’s?

….The Japanese make their own version too, also a pork version. It’s a
mixture of Chinese, Japanese and western cooking called Shippoku cuisine.
This version is actually called sesame prawn toast, the usual version isn’t
coated in sesame seeds and they add water chestnuts into the prawn mince
and deep fry as normal. Sesame prawn toast is the more common variant in
Aus and also in the UK. I have had this with almost every Chinese dinner
since I was little. Thanks CookWithAussie for the vid!
I wonder if anyone who doesn’t know what prawn toast is would at least have
a thought to google it. It has a page on wikipedia actually. Apparently,
prawn/shrimp toast is a dish thought to be over 100 years old. It
originated from China’s Guangdong Province, so it really is Chinese….
