Watch how to make delicious Mexican fritters. Churros are simple to make and amazing with hot coffee! Strips of pastry are deep-fried and rolled in cinnamon and sugar.
Sorry about that, Haooii Days. We know it’s disappointing. Did you use a
candy thermometer to check the oil temperature? It needed to reach 375
degrees F (190 degrees C). And did you let the churros cook long enough?
Hi, nursyafiqahhanim rosli – This is a great question! You can use any kind
of vegetable oil for this recipe. Choose something that has a mild flavor
so it won’t compete with the lovely sweet taste of the churros. Canola,
safflower, corn, or peanut oil are all good. For frying, look for an oil
with a high smoking point, which means it can be heated to high
temperatures before smoking and burning. (Butter and margarine won’t work.)
The label should tell you if it’s a “high heat oil.” Enjoy the recipe!
Hi, cassandra Collamat – Thanks for your question. Yes, you may substitute
brown sugar in this recipe. Brown sugar has more flavor because it’s white
sugar combined with molasses, which gives it moistness and a soft texture.
The recipe will be just as delicious made with white sugar.
Oh, oh! What happened, natalia b?
Great idea, Blessteva Johnson! Vanilla extract always adds a spark of
flavor to any pastry. Let us know how it turns out.
Can you bake it instead?
Traditionally, churros are fried in hot oil, not baked, The Unknown. You
might try this baked donut muffin recipe as a substitute:

To fry it do you use vegetable oil??
ain’t you suppose to add eggs? plus it’s better with vanilla extract.

try not using sugar in the dough mixture.

Thank you for your question, Meghan Ross. This recipe uses oil in the
batter – if you wish, you can use melted butter instead.
